Modern Warfare 2 is a mostly serious, mostly reality-grounded first-person shooter. You might be surprised to hear then, that there could've been aliens and zombies in it.
That's according to Modern Warfare 2 writer, Jesse Stern, who's discussed with Gamepro his outlandish initial ideas for the big sequel.
"In the beginning we talked about having things in Modern Warfare 2 like outbreaks, viruses, chemical warfare, and even outlandish things such as aliens and the living dead," he revealed.
"We worked our way through it before we finally ended up with a more grounded version of the real world as it's depicted in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. And as we were kicking around scenarios for conflict, we kept stumbling into things that were happening in real life, which was honestly unintentional."
You might joke, but it's clear that the community want to see more zombies in their Call of Duty (the multiplayer bit at least, anyway). We can't see it happening somehow, not until Treyarch turns up again, anyway.
Well this would have been a stupid idea. It would just move away from what Call of Duty was about originally. Most fans liked the multiplayer game mode but a full on game with that sort of thing I just couldnt see it working.
On the other hand, if IW released a zombie killing SP campaign complete with a plot that lasted some 8-10 hours on top of the existing SP campaign at no additional charge, then the game might actually be worth some of the existing discounted prices.
Played the Battlefield Bad Company 2 beta last night - bye bye MW2!!!
I take it that it was a positive experience then? What did you like about it in particular and what do you think could use some tweaking? Personally I look forward to reading/seeing more of "BBC2".
can't say too much under closed beta (i think) but very positive, excellent graphics, gameplay, destruction is amazing, sound is second to none, really really good experience - seriously, even though its a beta I really don't know if I can be bothered to return to mw2
It's good to see traditional writing tools such as imagination, empathy for your audience and, oh I don't know, a pen/typewriter being replaced by a map of the world, a blindfold and a dart board.
It turns out we were just a wire's width away from zombies in MW2.
I objected to it in W@W and I'd have objected to it in MW2 as well. It's just getting tacked on for the sake of keeping people playing when they saw how popular Horde mode and L4D were.
If either Treyarch or IW had made the game zombie-based from the start then that would be fine. But having a semi-realistic story mode and standard multiplayer, then going "oh yeah, by the way, zombies" is just silly.
Haven't Activision got some of the Dead Space team now? Probably get them to make a Dead Space clone then slap the Call of Duty name on it, watch the cash flow in...
Plus it'll give them the chance to kill off yet more characters... with the bonus of bringing them back!
I'm glad to hear you say that re: beta test. I checked out the multiplay vids for both these games before MW2 as released and I have to say, BC2 looked a lot more exciting. I have a feeling this one will knock MW2 on its rear once word gets out that it rocks.
I have to say Mondayding I want it to, but I don't think it will - I think MW has the halo effect now, millions bought it and I bet a good share of those were disappointed, and like someone else said - stick a call of duty name on it and your on a winner now. I just don't know if BFBC has the following - they need to do some good marketing, lets fill them servers up!
let me tell you i loved Nazi Zombies, so would have welcomed something like that in MW2. However as i am generally very disappointed in the whole multilayer aspect of MW2, i will instead be looking at Battlefield Bad Company 2 to see it that is better and more fun that MW2.
I must say there are a lot of big disappointments in this game. lots of glitches that seem as if they were purposely put in the game. this game needs lots of paches and fixes or it will be replaced very fast..... the only reason it is so highly rated is because it is the best game out right now.......
