Following the drama over Activision's said plans to launch a paid-for online service for future Call of Duty games, the publisher's said it's trying to kick off a similar scheme for Guitar Hero's DLC catalogue.
Speaking to the Seattle Times, Guitar Hero founder, Kai Huang said Activision is currently "trying" to launch some kind of monthly subscription service for the Guitar Hero DLC catalogue.

"That's definitely one of the things we would love to do," Huang told the Times. "There are a lot of issues around music licensing. Consumers want it; I know I want it. We're trying to make that happen."
Activision first revealed its aspirations to bring World of Warcraft-style paid-for online models to its other series earlier this month, when Activision Blizzard CFO, Thomas Tippl claimed there is a demand from its core fanbase to pay for additional services.
"Our gamers are telling us there's lots of services and innovation they would like to see that they're not getting yet. From what we see so far, additional content, as well as all the services Blizzard is offering, is that there is demand from the core gamers to pay up for that," he said.
Seems like Activision are "trying to" totally alienate their customer base. What's wrong with the current model where they release stuff and people choose whether they want it or not?
Who would choose to pay more money for a selection of songs they don't/might not like?
It seems the approach they are taking is to leach as much from their "heavy users" as possible.
I have love little big planet. They release new stuff I bought the MGS pack, I bought the History pack, I passed on the street fighter pack.
Media Molecule have taken around £150 off me for that one game yet not once did they compell me to do so.
I spent extra on what I thought was worth it, that's what customers really want. That's why I haven't got into WoW, I just don't think it's worth £100+ spread over a long period of time.

I got world tour and a guitar for £33 yet when I got it home and started playing the song choice was extremely dodgy to say the least.
Now I'm in the position that I'm looking covetously at Guitar Hero 5 simply for the songs on the disc and nothing else.
Before anyone says to look on the PSN, I did and there's no Voodoo child or for the love of god.
If they do do this, I'm trading the lot in. Well any game with Activision on the box, I have next to no money atm anyway, I can't afford anymore going out.
The idea is good but these things seem to be very narrow minded. This kind of service relys on the opinion of core gamers and to cut out the rest of us who don't dedicate all our time to one game is dangerous.
Due to the way you pay for games like WoW you must dedicate time to get value for money. Because of that I have never played the game. Other games which let me dabble when I want and choose content that I want get my attention and money.
Content on a subscription base is ok as long as the content is available to download in other ways so not to fragment the user base.
This post may come across as drivil as i'm still asleep.
Activision would seriously need to pull their fingers out if they really wanted to do this - the DLC they've provided so far has been ridiculously limited compared to Rock Bands selection.
I can't really see how it would work. As the other posters pointed out, it'd always be a case of getting some stuff that you do like and others that you don't - considering most people would realise this, I find it unlikely that many would sign up on subscription unless there were some big incentives included....you'd be more likely to just get the songs you want, otherwise.
Spot on Parma, I'd never subscribe to something like this as the quality of songs they release as dlc simply isn't good enough. It's just greed from Activision, another way to get more money from the consumer.
I'm not too bothered about it anyway tbh, I've lost all interest in GH lately, Rock Band totally outclasses it in every way if you ask me.

I think people would be a lot more likely to subscribe to a Rock Band subscription, because you know that you'll get a lot within a month and the variety will be generally pretty good.
A few 3-pack songs here and there from Activision really wouldn't be worth the money - I've only ever bothered with the Jimi stuff and the free Springsteen songs on GH: WT...but, there's tons of good stuff on RB and it's constantly updated.
Yep, I'd be a lot more tempted if they did it for Rock Band. The biggest problem I have with GH is that as soon as a new one comes out the last one is forgotten about instantly. They immediately stop making dlc content for it and almost force you to buy the newer version. The decision not to allow you to transfer your dlc songs from 3 to world tour was a disgrace, and the only reason they did it for 5 was because they knew it would harm sales if they didn't. Activision are the biggest problem with GH imo.
the bean counters are in complete control of activision. they are on course to slay their golden gooses and this needs to happen for them to wake up and smell the roses. Activision will do an EA and it'll be Ubisoft or whoever that takes up the mantle.
Rockband is just a better product than GH, although i do prefer the Gh guitars. Rock Band beatles is class.
The greedy Bastard's i always thought E.A were the most evil publisher untill Activision started down this road. Whats next Pay Per chord, Everytime you strum on guitar hero Activision get 5p
