Pics: iPad game view modes

Apple tablet's various game views compared
Comparison pics have been released showing the Apple iPad's various game viewing modes.

Developer Kevin Ng made comparison pics of his game, WordCrasher running on tablet at native iPhone resolution, using the iPad's zoomed-in "2X mode" and in full, native iPad resolution.

The result is that obviously the native iPad resolution looks much better than both the blurry zoomed-in mode, and tiny iPhone res.

Ng says the iPad's use of OpenGL ES 2.0 allowed him to "use bump maps and other shader techniques to present more realistic materials."

You can see Apple's new games in action via these iPad game videos.

I think this will be a pain in the bottom to use as a laptop, if it had a stand this would be phenomenal as a PC (or mac).
ATM tho i just think its an oversized ipod Touch, as i have an iPhone i cant see me buying this

but surely the 'upscaling' is literally just that, its just the same image but bigger. its not going to increase texture resolution, or polygon counts, so any game designed for the i phone is still going to look pretty shody.

plus while the resolution is higher, the screen is also bigger, so it could actually end up being a lower quality image than on the iphone/ipod. after all, 1024x768 isnt THAT good a resolution, its still at the standard definition end of the scale.

What like this:

Personally, I think its aimed at convenience for simply browsing the net, checking emails, reading ebooks, on tech that is much less cumbersome than current laptops etc. I love the fact that it is just a bigger iphone/iTouch. Like these products, I think apple intend this to accompany your current PC or Mac not replace it. The only problem is the price point, and the memory size. If it wasnt for that, I would by it the instant it came out

and the lack of phone

and the lack of USB/connectivity

and that the browser doesn't even do flash

and that you have to pay extra just for WiFi

bigger waste of time ever, it's just a gimped tablet that will attract Apple lovers.

maybe when apple were developing the Ipad they thaught "hey why not make an ipod touch for old people" and the idea started from there thats probably why it's so big and stupid
