Gran Turismo lifetime sales revealed

Racing series does over 55 million worldwide
Gran Turismo developer Polyphony Digital has released the facts and figures behind who bought a Gran Turismo game. Makes for an interesting read.

Last May Sony announced that its Gran Turismo racing series had notched up 50 million sales across all PlayStation formats (except PSP though) in ten years and precisely four months.

Eight months later and the series, that now includes a PSP version, is still going strong despite the no-show of GT5.

Here's the top line from Polyphony Digital (as of Dec '09):

Worldwide Title Units (K)
Gran Turismo 10,850
Gran Turismo 2 9,370
Gran Turismo 3 A-spec 14,890
Gran Turismo Concept Series 1,560
Gran Turismo 4 "Prologue" 1,350
Gran Turismo 4 10,980
Gran Turismo 5 "Prologue" 4,650
Gran Turismo PSP 1,800

Total 55,450

Question

you do realise they dont actualy make the game anymore they just make trailers and screenshots and calculate numbers and think of dates when to delay it too

That is a s**t load of games. I wonder if GT5 can live up to the standards set by GT3, considering that the installed PS3 userbase is considerably smaller than the PS2 userbase, coupled with the fact that there is stronger competion on the market now than there was then. Only time will tell.

If they spend much longer on it they'll need to break all records to break even on it.

Are they aiming for this to be a PS4 launch title or summat?

Every time a new car game comes out that scores highly this slips further back (presumably whilst they bolt on something else that the latest car game has come up with to keep up) Ggggggrrrrrr. I wanna play it - I spent £150 on a wheel for the mofo! I wish it'd gerra frikkin move on!

i'm not 100% sure, but when GT3 shipped i believe the PS2's install base was lower than the current PS3 install base. i see competition stymieing sales moreso than install base.
