'Special' Nintendo reveal on Feb 24

Firm invites press to mystery event later this month
It looks like Nintendo is gearing up to make a big revelation as it sends out invites to a special event later this month.

NOA has invited US press to attend a Q1 Media Summit event in San Francisco on February 24, saying: ""Please join us for a full day of presentations, demos and hands-on gameplay," according to IGN.

This comes after us official US Nintendo mag, Nintendo Power, teased "something very special" for its next issue, which is due out on March 12.

What could it be? We're hoping it'll finally lift the lid on the next Legend of Zelda on Wii, but it could also include Super Mario Galaxy 2 or Team Ninja's Metroid: Other M. On the other hand we're hoping it's NOT a DSi XXXL Lite Pocket Colour.

Exciting stuff.

Hopefully the new Zelda, but probably not.

Hopefully the new console, but probably not.

Well back in November a IGN employee claimed to of seen first hand a game from Nintendo that would shock us when it was unveiled at a later date. He said it wasn't a game we already knew about or had seen, which would rule out Mario Zelda and Metroid. Hopefully it will be a new Star Fox or Pilotwings or something along those lines.

zelda or pikmin.

Let's hope so. And don't forget F-Zero. It'd be great if it were to be all three

Slightly off topic, but one of the tech reporters on the BBC site was going on about some PS3 game a while back that he couldn't talk about but was supposedly going to be amazing and make people's jaws drop.

Was that ever released or did anyone ever find out what the hell he was on about?

A new Starfox would be fantastic.

Hopefully the new Goldeneye, but probably not!

..see what I did there? I sensed a pattern and I went with it.
Eclipse Dj on 10 Feb '10
It will not be a WiiHD or a new handheld, and that is a good thing.
This generation can go on for years yet, everyones doing well and the longer the gen lasts for the longer dev's get used to the hardware and can really push the machines.

Nintendo will show a big SNES franchise which is back on the Wii.

My money is one Pilotwings or Kirby AS WELL as the new Zelda game.

I remember that - for some reason, I think it may have been Heavy Rain. I don't think it was ever fully explained, but I'm sure it's a game that has been revealed (or even released) by now.

In typical Nintendo fashion everyone will get excited and it will be a new Pokemon game or Wii Music 2. Fed up with them. Humbug. Hope it's all the other games posters have listed but suspect not.

BBC reporters and other mainstream press tend to get excited about things that gamers might not find that special. It could have been pretty much anything Smile

I can't see why they wouldn;t release an HD version of the Wii as it stands ina DDi style. HD is surely soem thign that most customers are savvy about and want. It will give Nintendo the chance to sell people a Wii again wqith not much added. Throw in new Wiimotes with built in motion plus. That's a bingo. Nintendo like money it seems.

You know, I was bored of Wii and nothign good but bought Mario Galaxy cheap, dusted oiff the Wi. It's completely brilliant.

Probably some obscure Japanese title "Waka waka ninkynonk plinky plonk revolution' or some s**t.

Sorry, I'm just trolling for trolling sake.

I can't see them releasing a HD Wii. It would be completely different from releasing the DSi as essentially the DSi is just a DS with sd slot and camera. The same games play on the DS as the DSi apart from the download only ones (which obviously can't be installed on the DS). A HD Wii would mean that the games would not be backwards compatible with the normal wii unless the developers included both versions on the same disc which would be expensive.

I think Nintendo will wait until their next console before they go HD.

Perhaps this reveal is an upgrade to the online service or as people have said a big new game.

I suppose it is possible that it is a new Gameboy as I think I remember them saying a while ago that the DS is not a replacement for the GB but a separate line. I do not think this is likely though.
leefear1 on 10 Feb '10
HD is surely soem thign that most customers are savvy about and want.

Judging by sales of the Wii compared to PS3 and 360, I'd say that obviously isn't the case.

DSi XL Plus

To be honest, as many suspect, I reckon its going to be a letdown
JuiKuen on 10 Feb '10
Along with some new games, (hopefully a new 1080, Kid Icarus and Eternal Darkness)I would also like to see them announce an end to friend codes (they have been removed from Monster Hunter so is possible) I would also like to see them announce some kind of patching to add wiispeak support to past games i.e. Mario Kart, if ever there was a game crying out for some voice chat it is this!
Art Vandelay on 10 Feb '10
A new online service would be good. They should charge a subscription like XBox Live, but include free use of all VC games for subscribers. That would be really awesome. Oh and get rid of friend codes like Vandelay said too Smile
yerbluesjohn on 10 Feb '10
Didn't mario's va say there was a mario game in development that wasn't Galaxy 2? Yeah I'm betting this mystery reveal turns out to be Mario Party 9 (or whatever we're up to know).

I can garuntee it ain't anything spectacular like Zelda, or a much wanted revive of something like starfox or f-zero, they'll be keeping something like that for E3.
Athrun888 on 10 Feb '10

Indeed most people will have no idea what the difference is between 1080p and 1080i or even the difference between 1080p and 720p... In fact the majority of people are still convinced that the more you spend on a hdmi cable the better the picture will be!

At the other end of the scale there are those that think HD is the only way and that bluray is significantly better than good upscaled DVDs etc.

I have to say that my Wii looks ok on my 40" TV although I would obviously prefer the next console to be HD.
leefear1 on 10 Feb '10
Yes a new F-Zero would be good, with the Wiimote used to good effect plus imagine 40 player online races (that's based on the fact that previous versions had 40 cpu controlled racers).

I do remember its was charles marinet or whatever the guy who voices mario & co said he'd been contracted to work on a new mario game that wasn't Galaxy 2 or super mario bros Wii. Maybe it will be a new type of mario game, I always thought that a Oddworld munch's oddysse type game where you use both Mario and Luigi to move through the levels would be good fun (And it could be co-op off & online).
Osiris25 on 10 Feb '10
Something very special.

Ok, I'll break it down a little. I have a very good friend. We are very close and I consider her a very special friend. One who I would give up a hell of a lot for. She is one in a million.

Now, a 'very special announcement' by Nintendo... Hmm... I think I am gonna be let down. Sad
kimoak on 10 Feb '10
3D wii pokemanz.
SICARIUS1 on 10 Feb '10
Excited, but have a bad feeling. Depends what "press" have been invited. If it's purely games journalists, fine, but if it's more mainstream we may be seeing something for the mass market involving the vitality sensor.
gothchild on 10 Feb '10
Stuff on the new zelda probably.
wiikii007 on 10 Feb '10
hopefully a proper wii pokemon rpg, but probably not
stevedbrookes on 10 Feb '10
I'm willing to bet one whole English penny, that this surprise is something to do with user generated content. It was hinted at last year as the next big thing up Ninty's sleeve and if they get an on-line interface right, could be huge.....well it'd get my attention Exclamation
charliecheswick on 10 Feb '10
Maybe its Mass Effect! Could be like EA did with Dead Space...if it is I might have to buy a Wii!
Dave_25 on 10 Feb '10
Probably some obscure Japanese title "Waka waka ninkynonk plinky plonk revolution

I would totally buy this game!
jimsmells on 10 Feb '10
I reckon it's Mario Golf Wii.
timmylove on 10 Feb '10
I was visiting Bulbapedia (The BEST website ever that brings me back to my childhood) and it says that the new Pokemon movie is out on the 23rd I think and it has the new Pokemon revealed on CVG in it. So new Pokemon game the day after perhaps?
The Kool Kid on 11 Feb '10
Does anyone remember Charles Martinet mentioning an exciting new game in his Twitter feed last year that would be "crazy fun"? I wonder if it could be this?
Stu_the_great on 11 Feb '10
I'm thinking the announcement will be Miyamoto's new Motion Plus game, also hopefully new info on Zelda wii (like the full title name) and the first playable demos of Metroid Other M and Galaxy 2 but if any of that isn't there then I'd take a brand new Nintendo game being announced.
The_Jaster on 11 Feb '10
There you are, scouring the internet in ready anticipation. It's 9am, the 24th of Febuary. So far, nothing. But then you see a new article at 10am. It's what you've been looking for. You open it. The game turns out to be...

Wii Sports 3.
