Codemasters Studios VP Gavin Cheshire has some serious issues with Sony's PSP.
Specifically, he thinks that the user experience is rubbish and is threatening to stop people using the handheld, he told our friends at Edge.
"Well, speaking as a person who bought a PSP, the problem was that I always thought, because it was a better screen than iPod's, that I'd be doing more with it. But it was such a bollocking useless waste of space; just getting stuff on it was ridiculous. That was its downfall.
"Relatively speaking, we didn't do too badly on F1 PSP," he added. "But regarding the future, I think they've got - well... no. PSP Go's a lovely device, really smart, but our senior VP bought one the day it came out and has a great story, because he ended up on some customer support line just trying to do basic stuff.
"He had to re-download his software, do an immediate firmware update, and that's your user experience. Sony just hasn't got it right. Stuff like that will make people leave it alone."
Sony said last week that UMD is alive and well, and that worldwide PSP sales stand at 60 million units.
Cheshire also told Edge why Codemasters isn't working on any motion control-based games at the moment, and said that he prefers the look of Sony's Move to Microsoft's Natal.
How hard is it to put your little memory stick into a USB Card reader, and transfer pictures, videos, music etc over to the card, and then watch/listen to the file on the PSP? It's simple. Or download things on PS3 and send them over, with the USB Cable. Is this guy Warren from 'Something about Mary?' The PSPs problem is it should play MORE media content then the MP4a or whatever it is it plays for videos. Converting files is an annoyance.
Great timing on this story as I dug my psp out a week ago and im using it lots . Im playing through ps1 games though, havent played a psp game in a about a year. Not since Resistance *shivers at the memory*
I forgot how much ghosting there is on the screen. Its awful! PSP2 time please, well, make sure its hackable for emulators, cheers sony
haha same as above, I wish i had never wasted my dosh on the broken game known as Operation Flashpoint : Dragon Rising on the PC.Couldnt give a rats bottom what that fail of a company thinks.

and thats the same for your game support Codemasters, absolute appauling, bring a game out thats full of bugs and broken, release 2 patches that dont sort any of it and then say after that you have finished and have no more interest in sorting the product.
I agree with him to a point. The PSP is a design horror. Artisticly is looks very nice but everything else about it is horrible, from the poor button layout that makes my hands cramp up after a while, to the overly reflective screen which makes it almost impossible to use outside, to the truly poor screen speed which causes ghosting! The UMDs are a rubbish design too as they are brittle and they need a protective door to stop finger prints. I am not particularly impressed with the UI either, I have seen worse but it is not brilliant.

I agree, PSP is a joke, I had one and didn't use it much at all and that was with full games off the net lol,
I sold mine and now have an ipod touch 32gb, I enjoy it x100 more than the PSP, the touch/iphone has become such a good gaming device since late 2009, some amazing games on it.
I also buy all my apps/games for my ipod instead of downloading games/torents for the PSP.
Those in glass houses should not be throwing stones...
Has this fella forgotten the collosal toilet flush that was Clive Barker's Jericho....
That game should have been amazing... instead he enlisted a team of programmers from the sunshine bus and made the game as playable as a spikey rubiks cube
What the Codies guy said is quite out of order tbh. This coming from the company who just announced they're doing YET ANOTHER rally game off the name of a dead man.
I find my PSP and my PSPGo very useful, good for watching movies, but more so, the gaming, easy to set up, never EVER had any problems. Does more than I expected it to with stuff like comic book reader and PlayTV. Especially like my PSPGo as I got one on launch and have had a few games litteraly thrown at me from Sony.
GT PSP - Got on launch for free Daxter Resistance Killzone - all got for free at the same time Assassins' Creed - got a little later on again for free.
Them, coupled with a free PSP case, means I paid less than £130 for my PSPGo.
Sony should get this guy for deformation of product. Slander lol

Yes but what did you actually pay for your PSPgo? just curious. 5 year old hardware, smaller screen and arguably better form factor? I think the go would have been great at £100 but by god did sony overshoot that by a freaking mile. Honestly amazed they sold a single one

Thats a pretty sick comment to make tbh ...
Colin Macree was a great sportsman , and they are keeping his name alive by releasing games with his name on. I cant think of a better tribute than that ....
Sorry but if want your comments to be taken seriously you shouldnt really come out with crap like this ....

Ah yeah forgot about micro machines To be fair I dont own a psp but I borrowed my sisters and final fantasy 7 : crisis core. It was and still is among the best games I've ever played on any system. It really opened my eyes to what the psp can do (or any portable gaming system I guess). Looking out for MGS5 : peace walker. and seeing what offers are out on that.
the last codemasters game i remember playing was that music game they did on ps1, quite good but then they only published it
this is just a "we can only sell our shovelware to stupid people who never check reviews" attitude, a bit like "all those people who buy bargain bin tat from morrisons"
name a good codemasters game sold within the last 5 to 10 years
dirt was supposed to be alright... erm .... no im struggling, i think the only people who could answer that question would be the video game new comers via wii/ds
Couldn't disagree more. The only thing wrong with psp is lack of second control stick. Screen, umd drive, user interface, loads of great games...I've never had any problems with it. Admittedly it is nearing the end of its life but if it was really so bad they wouldn't be planning psp2. If they get psp2 design right, that could be one of the best handheld's ever. That is a very big if though.

FANNNNNNNNNN BOOOYYYYY
I have a psp, dsi, ps3, xbox360 and Wii...and if I could afford an iphone for the games I'd get that as well. I love gaming across the board, I don't care what the console is as long as the game is good. I hate people who are blindly loyal to one console or company. Glad I got that off my chest...
wasnt there going to be a version of home for the psp,now the ps3 version is out of the beta ,maybe they can work on it, that might help, everyone loves home
