UK multiformat mag EDGE has awarded Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 9/10 in a stunning review, in which it calls the game 'viciously accurate' and 'comically frank'.

EDGE posted its review on its website earlier tonight - slightly later than Rockstar's embargo of 16.00 GMT.

It reports: 'The distinction between hoodlum and gunman separates Redemption from GTA. Violence is a trade, a skill to be revelled in. Guns are surgically accurate.'

Like CVG's own review, EDGE says that the game manages to prevent its repetition becoming tedious with some neat tricks.

It later adds: 'A healthy range - everything from preventing a lynching to transporting dynamite to (yes) flower picking competitions - keeps these events from growing repetitive in the way Assassins Creed's similar occurrences did.'

Check out our round-up of all of today's reviews of Red Dead Redemption for PS3 and Xbox 360.
