LucasArts to resurrect Star Wars: Starfighter?

LucasArts is busy creating a next-gen Star Wars: Starfighter game - and could even reveal it at E3.

That's according to a US publishing source close to the Californian company, who today told CVG that a title is being readied for Xbox 360 and PS3.

The air combat/action Starfighter series was released in two iterations on PC, PS2 and Xbox.

The original game saw players protect Naboo from an invasion. Official PlayStation Magazine awarded the title 9/10.

The second game in the series, Star Wars Episode II: Jedi Starfighter, took place during the Battle of Geonosis.

A LucasArts spokesperson told us today that the news was "rumour and speculation".

We await E3's arrival with baited breath...

The original starfighter games were great when they first came out but have aged pretty badly. Still, I'm looking forward to this - too few space combat sims around these days that don't involve harvesting minerals from asteroids.

Gimme Rogue Squadron!

whaaaaaat? star wars jedi starfighter 3? the first two were crap and had no sence to the star wars timeline but a third one? awww come on lucasarts! what happend to star wars battlefront 3?!?!?

after free radical went broke they could at least give another games company what free rad. done so they can add more to it!

its been over 5 years since star wars battlefront 2 which was good but wasnt good enough as the campain can be done in under 2 hours but as they took so bloody long now people expect custmisable killstreaks/titles like in MW2 Very Happy

Actually, screw all of that, make a 1:1 lightsabre game-now! And not for Move, cus I doubt I'm gonna buy a PS3 this century...

STAR WARS BATTLEFRONT 3 Evil or Very Mad

To hell with that! TIE Fighter (2) FTW!
The_KFD_Case on 8 Jun '10
I don't know what the hell they have been thinking, leaving an IP like Xwing/Tie Fighter lay dormant while shoveling this garbage to us. To be fair, I though the Rogue Squadron games were quite fun, but I miss the sim aspect of Xwing etc. :/

I think this kind of game would suit Move/Natal well.

Speeder bikes+Natal = distinct possibilities

(I would have suggested pod-racers, but I'm still trying my hardest to erase the stain of The Phantom Menace from my memory: it still hurts, George Lucas. It still hurts...)

Yeah, he didn't even have the common decency to use lube!!

bastard

Now give us TF2. Don't make me come over to California and be forced to hunt you down at the ranch (via the Archives of course, who wouldn't kill to see them!)
richm74 on 8 Jun '10
Stuff this modern rubbish like Starfighter and Battlefront, give us the proper Star Wars games like TIE Fighter or Jedi Knight, hell I'd be happy with Alliance 2 as long as they kept the controls.
