Online retailer Buy.com has revealed that Call of Duty: Black Ops will be available in a Hardened and Prestige special edition. At least, it will in the US.
While the contents of the two premium versions haven't been detailed, the Hardened Edition is listed for $79.99 while the Prestige Edition will set you back $149.99.
Modern Warfare 2 received similar treatment when it was released last year. The Hardened Edition of MW2 featured a steelbook case, art-book and a code for Call of Duty Classic.
The Prestige Edition had a working pair of night-vision goggles. You can probably guess these will have similarly outlandish gifts thrown in.
According to analysts Treyarch's Call of Duty: Black Ops pre-orders have surpassed those of Infinity Ward's blockbuster, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.
Comments from Treyarch suggest that the studio is very confident in their follow up to Modern Warfare 2, they recently stated that it 'raises the bar' over Modern Warfare 2 and will exceed expectations.
Cod sucks ass now. I am not getting this, instead I am getting the new medal of honor along with the Frontline remake That is waaaaaaay better than crap ops and cod1

$150, what could activision possibly throw in with that to justify it. Perhaps a gold plated paddle with 'activision' emblazoned on so they can spank you in-between games
There should also be a 'Cash Cow Steak' Edition where you walk up to the payment counter with the game, pay the £55 RRP then burn another 3 £20 notes in front of the cashier to gain the ability to leave the shop.
most people gave up on treyarch after waw now after mw2 everyone loves them again i wll get the normal copy as £45 is enough for me i just hope it keeps what was good about mw2 and changes what was so bad about it.
This Cod is going to surpass MW2 sales figures, and thats saying something. Just goes to show how much people lap up this kind of game like...like a fat kid eats cake, or piranha fish eat meat.
I'm actually interested in how many will migrate to Medal of Honor... CoD is done for me, played each one since CoD2 and to be honest I'm bored to tears now. MW2 fairly sucked too.
Nothing against special editions mind, love 'em in fact. You just know that Prestige will roll in at £120 though, and that is too much, even for a collector like myself. Reach Legendary I have pre-ordered for £95 but I'm a Halo nut, these days I wouldn't spend over the tonne for anything (I used to own a Neo Geo, so really, £95 ain't that bad!).
Meh. Counter Strike,Team Fortress 2 and Bad Company 2(+Vietnam expansion soon).Who needs more?Maybe I will buy MoH but I'm not impressed with it in beta, but I sure am not buying some overpriced MP game.
I traded MW after a year. I traded WAW after a few months. I traded MW2 after a few weeks. I'm now getting to the point of trading new COD games in negative time. Thats right, I'm actually trading all future releases before I've even bought them.
I just think all these military themed shooters are getting a bit routine. Apart from changing the setting, what else are they offering?
I'm looking forward to Bulletstorm way more than anything else COD has to offer. I think a bit of well done pulp sci-fi is just what the FPS genre needs. I mean it was pulp sci-fi games like Doom and Quake that started the whole thing off in the first place. Now we just get all this po-faced, humourless army crap that contains about as much imagination as a cheese sandwich.
Not that I'm dissing cheese sandwiches, they have their place. I just don't want them all the time.
Think i'll get Sainsburys Special Supermarket Edition for £26 like i did with modern warfare.
I do like Cod. I just dont like the tools that play/cheat in almost every single game of free for all. Damn tactical insersion. You only need look at the leaderboard to see the cheats in all their ill gotten glory. 500,000 kill streak my bottom.
If it wasn't for the "COD-Haters" there would be very few comments on these stories... Or maybe they're just staying away while all the children here have their tantrums?
The game developers have already confirmed a map pack for Black Ops one week after lauch called the 'money pack'. It's going to consist of 4 old maps from COD MW 2 priced at 1800 Microsoft points.
For that sort of money I'd expect my very own AirStrike for the Hardended Edition and my very own Jump Jet for the Prestige...
Honestly, the Cod franchise has been ruined by over zealous corporations and their marketing. Shame, I really enjoyed Cod4 and in my book it's still the best in the series and Activision weren't a~%holes at the time either. Oh well, not that there aren't better alternatives or anything(at least that's what good ol' Acti will have you believe)looks like I'll have to settle for Medal Of Honour, Reach and Crysis 2 instead. Shame.

Why do some many people hate mw2?. It's a good game, the shooting is responsive and tight, spec-ops is very well executed and tough and the multiplayer is enjoyable enough. I mean aside from Activision and all the pricing stuff It's 9/10 material. Of course there are problems with the franchise on a whole but as a stand alone game mw2 is far, far better than any of the shooters around now. I'm not saying it's the best shooter, but it has something for everyone and in games today that is rare.
COD hating is just boring now, there is nothing, like it or lump it, on the XBox presently that is a better FPS (non space age) war shooter, fact end of story. The next big war game to sell by the shedload will probably be, yes you guessed it, COD7 in November unless MOH pulls its finger out before it gets released.
