Gore: Ultimate Soldier Review

Lush Doomsday shooter
Lush Doomsday shooter

Give a game a name like Gore and you're asking for trouble. Nothing less than a full-on carnage carnival, preferably with a free bag of offal on the side, will satisfy the claret-soaked promise of the title. Happily, Gore delivers the um, gore, as well as chucking in a healthy dollop of fast-paced shoot 'em up action for good measure.

Perforated brain to start, sir?
Although the emphasis is clearly on the solid multiplayer game, the singleplayer is also tons of fun to play, powered by an astoundingly fast engine. Aping the old-skool lock 'n' load antics of Duke Nukem and Serious Sam, you hurtle through each well-designed and atmospheric level, hosing down the street scum with ever more obscenely bombastic weaponry.

It's a simplistic formula, but sometimes there's nothing wrong with disengaging your brain and blasting forth like a slack-jawed killing machine.
