Friday 30-Aug-2002 12:00 AM And believe us when we say there's plenty to get your hands on in Acclaim's latest extreme sports fest To make it clear from the outset, while BMX XXX is smutty to the extreme with content of a sexual nature, this is more Carry On than a Ron Jeremy Greatest Shots compilation, but as far as games go, its far more risqué than other mainstream titles. And along with the delicious Sapphic undercurrents of Dead Or Alive Xtreme Volleyball, this can only be a good thing. The future of videogames, no less. We are childish idiots who still laugh at farts, after all.
The "XXX" content manifests itself in various ways: your first port of call should be the character creation mode where you can lovingly mould the male or female rider of your choice. Whereas in other titles this is as bland and as pointless an exercise as selecting helmet colours and styles of t-shirt (brilliant), XXX allows you to fashion a fine work of debauchery. We opted for a rather muscular, topless lady with a Kylie-short skirt and pants showing. And yes her joyously pert breasts flap effortlessly in the wind as she pedals through the game. Winner.
Furthermore, each stage is littered with sordid, morally bankrupt NPCs who will utter double- and, more usually, single-entendre abuse in your direction and these range from tramps to pimps and prostitutes. But the adult content actually plays a crucial role in the structure of the game. Coin collection is essential and numerous gold nuggets can be found in hard-to-reach places, and after bagging a few a quick trip to the local strip joint may prove fruitful.
The doorman will ask if you're interested in watching young ladies degrade themselves in front of lecherous, old perverts - obviously you are so you flash the cash and head inside. And this is the best bit - you're treated to an FMV sequence of a curvaceous beauty slowly stripping off. And the more coins you have the more flesh she bares. How could Acclaim possibly think that mature, right-thinking men would be impressed by this? Oh.
Gameplay-wise, BMX XXX feels very much like a cross between Dave Mirra and Aggressive Inline with an updated game engine and various tweaks to make the game more than just a novelty clone. Built on solid gaming foundations and with a initially entertaining hook the only question that remains is whether the mature content will remain fun or quickly become tiresome. We'll keep you posted, but check back on Monday for brand new footage of the game in action.
