WaveRace 64 is a water-based race-iem-up that sits players aboard a host of different jetskis. A gamble? No, not when you consider the awesome processing power of the Nintendo 64. Shifting sexy graphics around a tarmac-based environment is one thing, but simulating the movement of waves is a completely different cup of salt water. And these arenit just for show either, because the water dynamics really DO effect the way in which your craft travels. When you first take to the water in Championship mode you have to face the tidal wrath of six courses. Once youive found your sea legs and win the championship, a seventh course becomes available and upon further success so does an eighth. WaveRace 64 wouldnit be half the game it is without its split-screen option. The screen is cut horizontally across the centre, with on-screen icons showing each player where the other racer is and how close they are. The greatest fun comes when you get into a rumble with the other player, where you know that one of you is going to end up either with a scratched aqua bike or in the drink! Those of you who donit possess an interested party should kidnap someone immediately rather than miss the opportunity to play WR64 in this fashion.

Verdict

Wave Race is another Nintendo gaming first. Itis awesome to look at, a treat to play and as original a racer as youire ever going to see, and the two-player mode gives the game a totally fresh level of challenge. Youill take to it like a duck to water.
