15-Aug-2001 Multi player perfection from Mario Mario Kart 64 was the one game all Nintendo fans were waiting for. If Super Mario 64 could be so good, they reasoned, then MK 64 would be phenomenal. Sadly this ainit the case, and itis left a fair few fans of the original disppointed. But itis not all bad news. Despite the gripes of die-hard Nintendoids, the new Mario Kart is still a great game. It may be lacking the coins of the original, and the courses arenit as inspired, but it plays like a demon, and thatis the important part, right? In four player mode pretty much nothing on console can touch it n gather four players of equal skill together and you are guaranteed a full-on battle royale right to the finish line. The bias towards power-ups too means even beginners have a chance. On the one-player side of things, itis mostly good, except for the criminally cheesy, cheating AI of the computer players. They go faster than you, and get all the best power-ups, but that shouldnit deter you from the fact that Mario Kart 64 is one of the most fun racers ever to be commited to silicon.
While the artficial intelligence in the one-player mode is a little suspect, and fans of the 16-bit original may by disappointed, you canit dispute that in four player mode, Mario Kart 64 is fantastice. Fast, addictive and above fun, MK64 will last for ages. If you have friends…
