1-Mar-2003 Basketball games are kinda like Marmite - you either love them or hate them. To the average Joe, it looks like it's simply a case of running from one end of the court to the other and slapping the ball in the hoop. The opposing team then does the same, and the whole thing is repeated till the final whistle goes...
There's a lot more to them then that, though, and NBA 2K3 does it all much better than most. Here's why...
B-BALLING BECKHAM Firstly, it is probably the best-looking b-ball game we've seen, and it's possible to tell the players apart in much the same way it's easy to pick out Beckham in FIFA.
Secondly, it plays a decent, flowing game of hoops. AI-controlled teams aren't quite so unbeatable as in the previous game, and their mistakes make it feel like a much more balanced game.
That's not to say it isn't challenging, though - take on the Lakers and you'll know you're going up against the best as they slam and alley-oops their way to spectacular victory. Luckily all the flash moves are in there for you to use too; all you've got to do is master them first.
