Mutant kids doing drugs

Sinners don't do drugs. Mutant children created by a megalomaniac supercomputer, on the other hand, do.

Dorothy, the supercomputer in question, has created a race of human-like beings called Galerians. The Galerians are able to use various chemical stimulants to create psychic effects, most often used as weapons.

Rion, the hero from the first game, is one such Galerian, but only until he can rescue his cryogenically-frozen human self from stasis and transfer his memories and thoughts from his scary Galerian brain to his regular human one.

So the setting is a bit baffling, but it also serves as the backdrop to a mature and enjoyable action game that borrows horror elements from Resi and Silent Hill and a stylish futuristic techno-punk groove from Final Fantasy VII and Fear Effect.

The action is derivative, and occasionally frustrating in places - especially when doors lock behind you, sealing you in a room full of mutant freaks with no drugs to help you pop their heads.

Still, there's no doubting the power of the story and superb cutscenes to draw you in.
