WWE Crush Hour Review

Drive yourself silly in and out the ring

We laughed at the concept of our favourite WWE megastars trundling along in silly cars. We scoffed at the idea of car combat challenges based on ass-kicking wrestling matches like SmackDown! and Raw. And then we had to eat our words with a big side order of fries when we realised Crush Hour isn't the stinker we thought it might turn out to be.

Punch Drunk Bumper
It's a weird idea, for sure. Vince McMahon has gone completely drunk with power and is taking over the TV networks. Surely everyone knows the one thing you don't do is mess with American telly - there'll have a civil war. For reasons best known to the storywriters, the only way to topple Vince's regime is to enter his Crush Hour TV show and win the league. It's naff, but it's all done with a great sense of humour, and the car combat action is rock solid.

Play in multiplayer, exhibition or in a full league against all your favourite stars, in cars that have appropriately different strengths and weaknesses. Brock's slow but hard as nails, while Trish is speedy and manoeuvrable. Level challenges are never more complex than defeating a set number of enemies or collecting the most objects in an arena, but that doesn't make the game any less exciting to play. It's not very tactical, but it's supposed to be more a laugh than a serious car battling sim, and the cheapo price reflects that. As such, it works better than anyone could have expected.

// Overview
Verdict
Saved somewhat by the budget price, this is a fun, throwaway game that's a laugh, even if it's got nowt to do with proper wrestling.
