The Great Escape

Some licences make sense, others are just obviously out there to make a load of money. Occasionally, you get one that's a complete head-scratcher.

The Great Escape on Xbox definitely falls into the latter category. However, its potent mixture of prison breaks, motorbike chases and the opportunity to kill Nazis could prove bewitching. The action is pitched somewhere between the tactical elements of Metal Gear Solid and the World War II shenanigans of Medal Of Honor, mixing stealthy cunning and gun-blazing bravado.

We Haff Vays Of Making You Play
There are four characters from the film present in the game, including the dashing Steve McQueen-played hero. All have their own story strand, which takes place in a locale specific to that story and features its own inventory of weapons and vehicles, meaning there's plenty of nice detail and variety.

In the version we've played, the weapons-select system is a little awkward, requiring you to more or less pause the game while you choose the appropriate weapon. In the middle of a gunfight this pulls you out of the action somewhat. The targeting system is a bit awkward too.

However, with the plentiful variation in the gameplay, we're remaining optimistic for the finished version.

// Tanks A Lot
Every now and again it's necessary to pilfer some transport from those accommodating Nazi chaps. Well, if they will leave this stuff lying around.
Climb in and let the carnage commence
Clout the unsuspecting mechanic to stop him alerting the guards
Use the wrench to fix the out-of-commission tank
