7-Aug-2003 Two years after the first game evil still lingers in Ashcroft, with a new cult giving the original four hunters a distinct sense of déjŕ vu.
This time they're joined by a new paramilitary hunter (the Wayward name is a clue here) for more undead ass-kicking action-shooter shenanigans, much in the same vein as the original.
PS2-exclusive Wayward's most obvious improvement is the new unlocking hub structure, letting you choose the order you want to play (or replay) levels to some extent. Five of these are totally new, and the rest are reworked with new missions and monsters, plus different types of missions like flashlight, collection, and sniper.
There are also seven new weapons, three fresh monster types including the insectoid Boojum plus the knife-tossing Mourner, four bosses, not to mention a bunch of new power-ups including armour, ammo and weapon parts, and seven of the spell-like Edge powers.
Other enhancements include experience bonuses being extended to characters you're not using so you can switch without having to restart. The one downside appears to be the backward step in co-op mode - where the Xbox original supported four-way, Wayward only allows for two.
