30-Jul-2003 "Good news, everyone..." it's Futurama on Xbox
Don't listen to anyone who tries to tell you Futurama is The Simpsons' underachieving cousin. It is truly funny and great on its own terms. To prove it, Futurama the game is coming your way and if you don't like it, you're missing out.
Futurama the game is wrapped beautifully in Futurama the show. Writers from the programme have written the cutscenes, which are also voiced by the original actors. In effect this amounts to an entire new episode of Futurama for you to chuckle at.
Unfortunately, the game itself isn't up to the standards of the show. While the big, beautifully drawn characters look and sound exactly like their cartoon-series counterparts, they don't offer a great deal in the way of a gaming challenge.
Bite My Shiny Metal Ass There is a good variation as you progress through the game, with each character bringing something different to their respective levels. The trouble is that while the game is certainly amusing, fun and on occasion, quite tough, there just isn't enough depth to satisfy most gamers. On the whole it's pretty pedestrian stuff consisting of walking, shooting and well-timed jumping.
An amusing, well-packaged licence that will appeal to players' love of the show but less to their love of games.
It's pretty basic stuff in terms of gameplay but the strong Futurama licence gives this a definite lift and the new footage will act as a magnet to any fan of the show.
