Funny how times change. The first Mortal Kombat provoked all kinds of anger thanks to the intense violence and copious amounts of blood. We like nothing better than ripping out spinal columns, so it kept us happy.
Ten years on and you can carry all the blood, intestines, organs and gristle of MK around in your pocket (but it won't do your trousers any good).
An Offal Lot Of Blood This edition is an update of the recent Deadly Alliance release, and allows you to indulge in four-player link-ups with your pals. You can battle solo or in a tag team, and there's a new betting system so you can wager koins on the outcome of a battle. On top of that there are a few new characters and some new backgrounds.
The fighting system remains unchanged. It feels nice and heavy, and the excellent sound effects accentuate the impact of each hit pleasingly. There's also enough blood to keep Dracula satisfied for a lifetime, splattering generously over the floor.
It's all good, dirty, ultra-violent, blood-soaked fun. The only main problem is whether you will want to splash out more koins on a multiplayer mode that doesn't come bundled with three pals, three GBAs and three copies of the game.
Solid fighting action that makes impressive use of the GBA and offers a hefty challenge, but underneath all the gore this isn't much more than an upgrade of the last game.
