What's an ACS Module? Is Ghost really Gaz from COD4? Who is the mysterious Kriegler? (Warning: SPOILERS)
On paper, Modern Warfare 2's storyline isn't exactly complicated. It's less The Brothers Karamazov, and more a particularly stupid episode of 24. But still - due to the clipped, rapid-fire pace of the cut scenes, and some assumptive leaps between missions - the plot can be hard to follow. The relatively authentic military speak (Oscar Mike is code for 'On the Move' BTW) is also hard to follow. So here are some answers to questions you might have been asking yourself as you played the game, and some bonus details and theories for committed-fans. Hopefully when you've read it, the events of Modern Warfare 2 will be a lot clearer. We are Oscar Mike.
And why an Xbox Live-style subscription model wouldn't be such a bad thing
Sony boss Kaz Hirai has just released a statement about rumours of Sony charging for 'premium content' on the PSN. "We are studying the possibility of introducing a subscription model, offering premium content and services, in addition to the current free services." he said. This was in response to speculation that Sony would be charging users to actually play games, like Xbox Live. But that's not the case, so you can relax. But would that be such a bad thing?
Peggle is plinky plonky awesomeness and it's arriving on your PSN Store soon...
There are plenty of valuable pocket-money purchases on PSN. And, even better, the majority of the titles are only available on PlayStation 3; The Pixeljunk games, Everyday Shooter, Crash Commando, Flow, Flower. But we don't have Peggle yet. The ultimate popping peg sim of all time.
When your life is at stake, all bets are... brrrp, brrrp.... off
Ok, hands-up, I was wrong. Well, not wrong, but generous in assigning a greater contextual, and subversively moral, value to the infamous Airport scene in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 in the recent PSM3 podcast. This, however, I have learnt...
Leona Lewis theme song means March 9th UK release risks losing x-factor
Finally. Square Enix have announced a Western release date for Final Fantasy XIII, one of history's most delayed games. And they've done it in the weirdest way possible.
An alternative view on the most successful game in history
I didn't buy Modern Warfare 2 on Tuesday and, to be honest, I'm not that fussed about phoning my local Sainsburys every five minutes to check if the game is back in stock. Why? Well - and bear in mind I'm trying to play devil's advocate here - I'm just not that fussed about the game. Like many hardcore gamers I'm tired of seeing Infinity Ward's behemoth soaking up column inches, and the incredible over-hyping has put me right off.
Day one: Here's what we got up to. What about you?
Did you manage to secure a copy of MW2? Some, but not all, of the PSM3 team did, and we spent the evening playing multiplayer and Spec Ops. So many people were playing Modern Warfare 2 last night, I swear I could hear the sound of gunfire echoing through the streets as I walked home. ELSPA are reporting that the game sold 1.23 million copies on its first day in the UK - almost double that of Grand Theft Auto IV. And that's netted Activision nearly £47 million, which, if anything, should guarantee a sequel, not that it was ever in any doubt.
Hear about *that* terrorist scene, from the first journalist in the world to play it, plus much, much more
Good news. After an unavoidable delay, PSM3 Podcast#22 is available to download NOW. It's a corker, too, as we debate Modern Warfare 2 with our writer Andrew Kelly, the first journalist in the world to finish the PS3 version, and experience *that* controversial terrorist scene. ***UPDATE*** Now with added Vernon Kay, and other launch event tales.
How Winnie the Pooh and a lack of PSone games confirms cross-Atlantic inequality
Another week, another PSN store update. It's great that Sony offer us new Demos, DLC, vids, wallpapers, Rock Band tracks, PSone games... but could they be doing more? When it comes to PSone games that answer is a massive 'Yes'.
Impress us with your compositions and get them printed in the next issue of PSM3
Hello! You've been playing a lot of Uncharted 2, right? Of course you have. It's amazing. But chances are you haven't fiddled with the game's cinema mode yet. This lets you compose your own screenshots and edit them in any way you please. It's amazingly addictive.
