Q. Why can't I post right away?
A. New registrations are currently being approved by the forum admins, so there's a chance you won't be able to post until the day after you register. This is especially true if you sign up at 4am, or at lunchtime.
Q. What is this place?
A. This is a discussion forum for Edge readers.
Q. Why are there only two folders?
A. The Edge forum isn’t intended to be all things to all people. There are thousands of forums out there for non-gaming discussion; with this forum we are providing a focused sounding board for everything that falls within Edge’s remit.
Q. And what is that, precisely?
A. Magazines have ‘mission statements’ (as publishers like to call them); ours is ‘Videogame culture’. Clearly that is an expansive umbrella: we’re up for talking about new games and old games and online games and handheld games and import games and web games and gaming trends and game theory and gaming in the news and gaming in learning and gaming hardware and game development and… well, you get the picture.
Q. Does this mean I can’t meander off topic?
A. This is a reasonable place run by reasonable people. But its purpose is game-related discussion. Bear that in mind and everything will be fine. In every single instance relating to every single thing here, be reasonable.
Q. What happens if I’m not willing to be reasonable?
A. Your account will be terminated.
Q. Well, that seems… reasonable. Now, what about swearing? Can I do some of that?
A. You will be discussing issues with fellow grown-ups, so grown-up language is acceptable. If you think swearing is grown-up, use it. But, again – yes – be reasonable. And please don't swear in topic titles.
Q. Does this place allow ‘FAO’ topics?
A. No. Use the private message option.
Q. What about trolling? Is that acceptable?
A. No.
Q. How about abuse?
A. Abuse, aimed at anything or anyone, will not be tolerated.
Q. Bumping topics?
A. No.
Q. Posting using all capital letters? l33tsp33k? txtspk?
A. No. All of this falls under reasonable behaviour.
Q. What about images?
A. Appropriate images are allowed in posts, but not in sigs.
Q. Avatars?
A. Avatars may be no larger than 80x80 pixels in size.
Q. Do Edge staffers read and post on this forum?
A. Yes. It’s most likely to happen during lunch hours, though, when they’re not working on the website or magazine.
Q. What about forum feedback? What’s the best way to communicate this to the Edge team?
A. We’re interested in what you have to say about the forum. Send your comments to: edgeforum@futurenet.co.uk
Q. What about discussing the content of other videogame magazines here?
A. This is a discussion forum for readers of Edge magazine. If you want to offer opinions on other publications, it’s best to do it on their forums.
Q. OK, what about if I don’t like Edge? Is this forum for me?
A. No. To everyone else, though, welcome aboard. We hope you’ll find this place to be a valuable part of Edge Online.
